Obituary:

Robert L. Bibbs, 76, of Destin, Fla. died March 4, 1999.

Mr. Bibbs was born on April 6, 1922 in Mankato, Minn. He was a 35-year resident of Lake Bluff before moving to Destin about 8 years ago. He was a member of The Union Church in Lake Bluff and of the First Presbyterian Church in Destin.

Mr. Bibbs was a decorated Captain in the U.S. Army, serving during World War II, where he earned three Bronze Battle Stars. He was a graduate of Lake Forest College and received his MBA from Harvard in 1949. Mr. Bibbs was an employee of Abbott Laboratories for 27 years. He retired in 1979 as Assistant Treasurer.

Mr. Bibbs will be remembered as a loving, devoted husband of over 50 years, a dedicated and wonderful father, grandfather and special friend to many. He was also an avid golfer and gardener.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret F. Bibbs, formerly of Destin and now of St. Charles, Ill.; his daughter, Barbara (Peter) Holmes of St. Charles; his sons, Bob (Carol) Bibbs of Virginia Beach, Va. and Dave (Katie) Bibbs of Lake Forest; his brother, Ed Bibbs of Mankato, Minn.; and his seven grandchildren.

Wake and memorial services were held March 6 and 7 in Destin. There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 21 at the Union Church in Lake Bluff. Interment will be at a later date.
