Obituary:

Mr. John Baker, an estimable farmer of Dayton township, who had been ailing throughout the spring and summer, died Tuesday evening. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, conducted by  Rev. Mr. Phillips, of this city. Mr. Baker was a native of Holland, but had been a resident of La Salle county for a number of years. He was a devoted christian, a member of the Baptist church, and an active Sunday-school worker, serving as superintendent of the Dayton school at different times. He was an upright, conscientious man, a kind neighbor, a tender husband, and a friend ever to be relied upon. He leaves a wife, the companion of his manhood prime, who shared with him the toils and joys of farm life, and who has the heartfelt sympathy of their many friends in Dayton and Ottawa.1
